1. A pothole on my street/alley was repaired with asphalt. Why wasn't it repaired with concrete?

When residents report potholes, the Street Department will investigate and determine the extent of the problem. If it requires immediate attention, or can be improved with asphalt, a temporary asphalt repair will be made. Concrete repairs are made after evaluating and prioritizing problem areas.

2. Will the city respond to a sewer back-up at my residence or business?

The city is responsible for sewer main lines and service lateral line repairs up to the customer’s property line. If the back up is on the city lines please call the Public Works Department at 972.495.7600 during normal business hours, on weekends, holiday and from 5pm to 8am call Police Dispatch at 972.495.2271, option 2 and a crew will be dispatched. If the back-up occurs in the City line, the crew will clear the line. If there is a blockage in the customer line, we will notify you.

3. Why does my water look cloudy?

Cloudy or milky water is caused by tiny air bubbles dissolved in the water. This does not affect the quality of water. Let the water stand a few minutes and the air will dissipate and the water will clear up.

5. What are the cities responsibilities for water line repairs?

The city is responsible for public water mains and customer service lines from the water main to the water meter.
If the leak is on the city's side of a water connection, city crews will make repairs. If the leak is on the customer's side of the connection, the customer will need to arrange to have repairs made by a licensed plumber. If a utility bill suddenly increases tremendously, it often indicates the presence of a leak in the customer’s private water system. Leaks in city water mains and water services from the water main to the meter do not register usage on customers’ meters.

6. What causes occasional taste and odor changes in Sachse’s water?

The City of Sachse received our water supply from the North Texas Municipal Water District. A natural occurrence in all surface water supplies, an “algal bloom” is responsible for the taste and odor changes in the treated drinking water supply. Algal blooms usually occur in Lavon Lake in late July and into August each year, but can occur at any time if the right conditions exist in the water supply reservoir.

7. Who do I contact to locate utility lines on my property?

Water and sanitary sewer main in public right-of-way can be located by calling the Public Works Department at 972.495.7600 to request a locate. Locates can take up to 2-3 working days to complete. Franchise utilities, including gas, electric, phone and cable are located by a 3rd party company via the 811 service. State law requires notification of the 811 service to request locates before digging. This is for your safety as accidentally hitting an electric power cable or gas main can lead to serious injury or death. Gas, Phone, Cable TV and Electric Power lines can be located by calling 811. The City does not keep records regarding the location of water or sanitary sewer services on private property. Location of water or sanitary sewer services on private property can often be deduced by locating sewer main cleanouts or water control valves on the property.

8. The sidewalk and curb in front of my house are damaged. Does the Street Division maintain sidewalks and curbs?
