Remembrance of 9/11: Patriot DayPlease join us today in remembrance of the lives lost on this tragic day in 2001. Many more continue to suffer medical complications from the effects experienced during the recovery efforts in the days and weeks that followed. We continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
In the immediate aftermath of the attacks, President George W. Bush proclaimed Friday, September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. A bill to make September 11 a national day of mourning was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 25, 2001. A resolution was written to proclaim September 11, 2002, as the first Patriot Day. #PatriotDay #NeverForget

X-treme Green is Back and Even More X-treme Than EverIt's time to gather all your recycling, household hazardous waste (HHW), electronic waste for our no contact, drive through event. Don't for those documents cluttering your office and kitchen drawers for onsite shredding because...we want it all! Come to X-treme Green tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Municipal Complex. Please note, the traffic flow is different this year. You'll find a map below, along with additional details about the event. CERT will assist with directing traffic. CWD will offer free cans of paint at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) station to residents needing it for projects. The paint is repurposed from partials collected by CWD. They’re blended together to create their signature beige color. Goodwill Industries is not coming as in previous events due to COVID-19 concerns, but don't miss the cart washing! Bring your polycarts to the event and we'll give them a bath for you. Please plan on presenting proof of residence, such as a current Sachse utility bill and a valid driver license.

Did You Know One Quart of Used Motor Oil Washed Down a Storm Drain Pollutes Up to 250,000 Gallons of Water? While the health of streams, lakes, and aquatic life is impacted by heavy rains and floods, people are the heaviest polluters of our waterways. Washing oils, gas, pesticides, fertilizers, and other toxins into stormwater collection systems puts our drinking water supplies at risk, and increases the time and costs required to monitor and effectively treat water with these pollutants.
Stormwater runoff is generated by precipitation that flows from rooftops, pavement, lawns, and bare soil. As stormwater runoff moves across these surfaces, it can pick up and transport pollutants to storm drains, which are connected to streams, rivers, and lakes. These pollutants can cause a number of water quality issues, including toxic algal blooms, fish kills, floating trash and debris, and higher drinking water treatment costs. Here are things you can do to help prevent stormwater pollution at home:

Team Up to Fight HungerTeam Up to Fight Hunger is a collaboration of Sachse, Wylie, Murphy and area community partners to provide food to people and families in need while supporting local restaurants. Families receive vouchers after completing a screening process with participating area food banks. Families can then take the vouchers to participating local restaurants, who have curated special menus for the families to choose from when ordering their meals. Each voucher is valued at $40 and provides a meal for a family of four. Families can go online at www.TeamUptoFightHunger.com/vouchers for the latest update about participating restaurants in the area and to check what each restaurant is serving for its customized meal. “The City of Sachse and the Sachse EDC proudly support the Team Up to Fight Hunger program by providing help for local businesses impacted by COVID-19,” said the Director of Sachse Economic Development Corporation Leslyn Blake.
