FIRST CITIZENS YOUTH POLICE ACADEMY CLASS GRADUATES

Mayor Mike Felix (left) and Judge Gerry Cooper spoke to the Youth Academy members before graduation.  Judge Cooper noted how pleased he was with the concept of a Police Youth Academy and stated that he was unaware of any other city conducting such a class.  That makes Sachse the first.

The group shows off their certificates for a photo moment.  Special guests include (from left to right) Mayor Mike Felix, Councilman Bill Adams, Officer Holland, Officer James Wright, Academy graduates, Lieutenant Cassidy, Judge Gerry Cooper, City Manager Allen Barnes and Mayor Pro Tem Pat McMillan.

The Sachse Citizens Youth Police Academy participated in some class activities that enabled them to see first-hand what it is like to perform a police officer's duties.  The 10-week course taught the students the proper and safe technique for making a traffic stop, the affects of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, visited the Collin County jail, learned how the crime labs use forensics to solve crimes, participated in simulated hand gun training and learned first-hand what it is like to be a police officer.
