FIRE PREVENTION BEGINS
AT HOME
No one wants to see this vehicle parked in front of their home.
NEW APPARATUS BUILT FROM
THE GROUND UP

Sachse Fire Rescue will soon have a new apparatus to
answer those fire calls. The new engine is being fabricated from the
ground up by E-ONE in Florida. It is a Cyclone Pumper engine that will
carry 500 gallons of water with an additional foam tank (for combustible
liquid fires). This engine will pump 1,500 gallons a minute, will
carry 1,000' of 5" hose to provide a supply line from the hydrant to the
engine during a fire with the capacity to carry an additional 1,000' of
another size of hose on board. It also carries rescue tools, medical
supplies and fire suppression equipment and tools. The engine will be
equipped with on-board computer and the latest communication technology and
fire equipment available. Capacity is four firefighters, which
includes the driver and officer. Sachse Fire-Rescue will schedule the
acceptance inspection at the end of March. After receiving the city
logo, stripping and details, the finished product will look very different.
City officials anticipate delivery to Sachse the first part of April.
This apparatus is part of the 2006 bond package and will be right at home at
the new Fire Station No. 1.
FIRE PREVENTION MONTH CELEBRATED IN SCHOOLS
October is Fire Prevention Month and each year during the month
of October, Sachse Fire Rescue visits the elementary schools to present
their fire prevention program.

Students at Armstrong Elementary got an "up close" look at the fire
engine.

Students at Sewell Elementary posed with Sparky after their tour of the
fire engine.

EMS Coordinator/Fire Inspector Robert "Bull" Knappage
and Sparky the Fire Dog presented the Fire Prevention Program at Armstrong,
Sewell and Cox Elementary Schools.
Sachse Fire Rescue conducts fire prevention programs
to all kindergarten and first grade classes in the elementary schools
located within Sachse, as well as conducting fall fire safety inspections
and fire drills in all the schools.
PERMITS REQUIRED FOR OUTDOOR BURNING
Citizens are reminded that
you may NOT burn any brush without a burn permit. Burn permits may be
obtained from the Fire Marshal's office and must include an application
stating the purpose for the burn along with a $75.00 permit fee. If you would like more information
or need to obtain a burn permit, you may contact the
Fire Administration office at 972.495.0975.
Tips to Prevent Grass Fires and
Uncontrolled Burns
Use extreme caution under these circumstances:
> Grilling outdoors is allowed but please use extreme caution while
drought conditions exist. Enclosed natural gas or LP (liquid propane)
gas grills and smokers are encouraged. Open-topped charcoal grills are
discouraged as discarded or unattended coals may cause a fire to occur.
> Ashes from a charcoal grill should be placed in a metal trash can with
a lid and placed at least ten feet (10') from any structure, including wood
fences. After cooling for five (5) days, ashes may be placed in your
polycart.
> If you see someone discard a lit cigarette, you may note the license
plate number of the vehicle and report it on the Don't Mess With Texas
website at
www.dontmesswithtexas.org. The violator will be sent a reminder
notice in the mail.
If you have questions or want to check the status of outdoor burning, you
may call the Sachse Fire Rescue crew at 972.461.9802.
