Code Compliance:

CODE ENFORCEMENT:

The Fire Department is responsible for code enforcement of Chapters 5 and 6 of the City of Sachse Code Book.  Chapter 5, Fire Protection, includes inspection of duplex and multi-family dwellings, enforcement of fireworks ordinance, open burning ordinance, and investigation of arson.  Chapter 6, Health and Sanitation, includes weeds, brush, and objectionable vegetation ordinance and the bulk trash/debris storage and pick-up requirements.

Chapter 5:

Inspection of duplex and multi-family dwellings shall be performed each time a new tenant moves in to ensure building safety, smoke and fire alarm installation and operation, and that any safety violations have been corrected.  Utilities will not be transferred in to the new tenant’s name until this inspection is complete.

By Chapter 5, Section G (f)(a) and in compliance with Section 78.202 of the Uniform Fire Code, fireworks are prohibited within the city limits of Sachse and within a distance outside the city limits for a total of 2,000 feet, except if this area is contained within the territory of any other municipal corporation.  It shall be unlawful to manufacture, assemble, store, transport, receive, possess, keep, expose for sale, sell at retail, offer or have in possession with intent to sell, use, discharge, cause to be discharged, ignite, detonate, fire or otherwise set in action any fireworks of any description.

Open burning is not allowed without a permit.  An application and fee must be submitted to the Fire Chief for approval, at which time a permit will be issued.

Chapter 6:

It is unlawful for any owner of any real property, occupied or unoccupied within the corporate city limits of the City of Sachse to permit weeds, brush or any objectionable or unsightly vegetation to grow to a height greater than twelve inches (12”) upon any such real property within one hundred fifty feet (150’) of any property line which abuts streets, alleys and rights-of-way, including drainage and utility easements, subdivided additions, developed property or any buildings or structures.  It shall be the duty of said owner to cut and remove unsightly matter as often as may be necessary to comply with this code; at least once every thirty (30) days shall be deemed a compliance with this section.  If compliance does not occur, the fire chief or building official shall give notice of such violation to owner either in writing, by letter addressed to owner, or by posting publication of the violation.  The owner of the property has ten (10) days to comply after receiving notice.  (As written in Chapter 6, Section 7 (A), (B), (C), and (D) of the City of Sachse Code Book.)

BULK TRASH/DEBRIS shall NOT be set out until the week of bulk pick-up.  Brush must be bundled into 4’ – 5’ sections.  The amount of bulk trash shall be no larger than 4 cubic feet (about the size of a couch).  Bulk trash pick-up week is the week in which the second Wednesday of the month falls.  All polycarts must be removed from the street/curb after the pick-up day.  Do not leave the polycarts or recycle bins setting by the street.
