GISD ANNOUNCEMENTS
ARMSTRONG ELEMENTARY DEDICATES WALKING TRAIL
Armstrong Elementary School invites the public to the
dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for the new walking trail on May
7th at 9:30 am behind the school, 4750 Ben Davis Road. Named the "Skyblazer
Trail" it honors John Armstrong, the school's namesake and his service

ARMSTRONG STUDENT TAKES SECOND AT REGIONALS
Armstrong Elementary fourth grader Kristen Fitzgerald
took Grand Prize at the school's science fair competition and placed
second at the North Dallas Regional Elementary Science Fair. GISD
Superintendent Curtis Culwell presented her with the trophy. Her
exhibit, Fossil Formation, was a study concluding which type of sediment
formed the best fossils. Kristen wants to be a paleontologist and
has attended several fossil digs, including Mineral Wells and Glen Rose.
Her collection includes fossils estimated to be over 300 million years
old.

HUDSON STUDENTS ADVANCE TO REGIONALS
The Hudson Pentathlon teams recently competed at the
district meet and will advance to regionals on April 26th.
Seventh-grade students competing include William Arnold, Breanna Bowie,
Michelle Chun, Gaven Edmonds, Alec Edwards, Charlotte Ernst, Cheyenne
Freeman, Allison Gray, Heather Hambelton, Alyssa Knighton, Hannah
McNeal, Kendyll Parker, Gina Quiasua, Florentino Rodriquez, Casey
Stafford, Mason Two Crow and coach Deborah Hightower. Eighth-grade
students competing in the Pentathalon include Nikki Blalock, Ariana
Burnett, Caryn Cooper, Tien Dang, Erin Harper, Jennifer Hayes, Josh
Johnson, Elyssa Kirkman, Alfonso Santamaria, Tony Truong, Nicole White,
Ashley Wonson and coach Norma Waters.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED AT
CHAMBER BANQUET
Sachse's Teachers of the Year were announced during
the Chamber's Annual Awards Banquet in February. This year's nominees
were Kathy Boneau of Cox Elementary, Sherry Bullin of Sewell Elementary,
Tammy Liehr of Sachse High School, Ginger Robb of Armstrong Elementary,
Kay Tabor of Luna Elementary and Jawan Wiltz of Hudson Middle School.
Ginger Robb from Armstrong Elementary received the Primary Teacher
of the Year award and Jawan Wiltz from Hudson Middle School received the
Secondary Teacher of the Year award. Congratulations to all the
teachers nominated this year.

STUDENT COUNCIL SELLING MUSTANG
BLANKETS
Sachse High School Student Council
is selling Sachse High School "Home of the Mustangs" blankets. The
cost is $30 each and benefits the Student Council. The blankets
are blue with the words "Sachse High School" and "Home of the Mustangs"
in white with an orange shadow. The fringe blanket also bears the
school crest and a galloping Mustang. For more information or to

SACHSE HIGH SCHOOL LEGACY WALL
Sachse High School is selling bricks for their "Legacy
Wall". Comprised of mostly 4" x 8" bricks, larger bricks are
available for booster clubs, varsity athletics and other groups to
purchase. Cost for a 4" x 8" brick is $20. That includes
three lines of type with up to 16 characters each and one logo.

GISD OFFERS ONLINE GRADE BOOK FOR PARENTS
The Online Gradebook technology is a way for parents to become more
actively involved in their child's education. By monitoring
grades, parents can tell when a student is struggling and can
quickly take action before it becomes too late. Students can
check their grades to ensure that they are at an academically
accepted level.
Beginning on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, parents will be able to
create accounts for the 2007-08 school year. Go to the main
district website at
www.garlandisd.net and then click the link on the right side of
the screen titled "Online Gradebook". Follow the steps through
the parent login screen.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL MUST BE KEPT IN NURSE'S OFFICE
According to Sachse High School (SHS) officials,
certain rules must be followed when a student need to take
medications at school:
> All medications taken at school must be prescribed
by a doctor or dentist, including any over-the-counter medications.
> All medications must be stored in the nurse's office during school
hours. The only exception is an inhaler for which the student
has turned in the proper paperwork that allows them to "self carry".
If the nurse does not have the paperwork, the student is NOT allowed
by carry the inhaler; it must be kept in the clinic.
> All medications must be in the original container and properly
labeled with the student's name, name of the medication, dosage and
time to be taken.
> All medications must be accompanied by a signed note from a parent
or guardian requesting the medication be taken at school.
> All over-the-counter medications must have both a signed written
doctor's order with specific instructions and a parent note.
STRICTER RULES IN 2007-08 FOR ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Sachse High School
administration would like for everyone to be aware of stricter rules
and enforcement pertaining to electronic devices. Any paging
device, cellular phone or other electronic device confiscated by
school district personnel must follow these procedures to retrieve
the device:
1. Device will only be
returned to the student and/or parent on Mondays ONLY. For
example, if the device is confiscated on a Tuesday, the device may
be retrieved the following Monday. However, if a device is
confiscated on a Monday, the device may not be retrieved until the
following Monday.
2. If the school is
closed on Monday, the device may be retrieved on Tuesday.
3. A parent may
retrieve the device free of charge during regular business hours on
Monday.
4. A student may
retrieve the device after 2:30 pm on Mondays. If the student
retrieves the device, however, they must pay a $15.00 retrieval fee.
GARLAND
AREA EARLY CHILDHOOD PTA
Meet
friends for you and your child! Garland Area Early Childhood PTA is a
social organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, birth to
age 6. They offer activities including play groups, field trips,
holiday parties, park days, mom's escape, children's crafts, lunch
outings, informative monthly newsletters, monthly meetings with guest
speakers and much more.
Monthly
meetings are held on the first Friday of each month, September through
May, from 9:15 to 11:30 am at Firewheel Bible Fellowship, 2302
Northeast Parkway in Garland. Meetings feature informative guest
speakers, a free brunch and provide another way to socialize and make
friends. Child care is FREE for first-time visitors for infants and

Sachse
residents who live in Dallas County attend Garland schools.
The Garland School District has open enrollment campuses.
A student may attend any Garland school of their choice as long as
they have transportation to that facility.
If they depend on school bus transportation, they must attend the
school whose bus route they reside in.
