MISSION STATEMENT

Community Development provides the community with a courteous, knowledgeable staff dedicated to the interpretation and uniform application of regulations in accordance with community established standards related to development, zoning, and construction.

Please contact the Community Development Department with any questions that you may have at 972.675.1633.

On weekends, holidays or after normal working hours, if you are in need of an emergency electrical or gas inspection, please contact the Sachse Police Department's non-emergency line at 972.495.2271 and notify them of the situation.  One of the department's inspectors will be dispatched to your location.

Director of Community Development - Barry Shelton
Building Official - Michael Spencer

The Community Development Department is located in the City Hall building.  This department is responsible for building codes and inspections, enforcement of the city codes and compliance through inspections, issuing building permits for new home construction, permits for signs, fences, sprinkler systems, add-ons, swimming pools, etc.

CONSIDERING ANY ADDITIONS OR REMODELING PROJECTS?

The Community Development Department reminds citizens to please contact our office at 972.675.1633 before beginning any new building or remodeling projects to determine if a building permit is required.

Permits are usually required for the following:

New buildings
Additions (bedrooms, bathrooms, family rooms, garages, etc.)
Residential work (concrete, decks, patio covers, garages, fences, carports, fireplaces, pools, water heaters, sheds, retaining walls, etc.)
Renovations (kitchen expansions, room expansions, foundation repair, reroofing, etc.)
Electrical systems
Plumbing systems
HVAC systems (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning)

Your home or business is an investment.  If your construction project does not comply with the codes adopted by your community, the value of your investment could be reduced.  Property insurers may not cover work done without permits and inspections.  If you decide to sell a home or building that has had modifications without a permit you may be required to tear down the addition, leave it unoccupied or make costly repairs.  Our knowledgeable code officials will gladly answer any questions you may have and will provide you with the resources and information needed for compliance with the applicable building codes.
