SACHSE SENIORS DONATE GIFTS FOR CANCER PATIENTS

Janet Hurley attended the City Council meeting October 1, 2007, promoting the wonderful work the Sachse seniors do for the Cancer patients.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Mayor Pro Tem Pat McMillan presented a Proclamation during the meeting.

Sachse's seniors worked long hours creating caps, pillows and tote bags for the Cancer Closet at Richardson Regional Cancer Center.  They donated 100 pillows, used by breast cancer patients following surgery, 100 chemo-caps for cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, and 50 tote bags.  Shown in the photo above, (left to right) Janet Hurley, Chairman of the Senior Center Committee and cancer patient Frances Bivona were pleased to present Christie Willis with Richardson Regional Cancer Center the hand-made items.  Ms. Hurley, along with Program Director Dixie Dickson, were instrumental in obtaining the donated materials for the project.  The seniors will continue to create the items for the cancer closet.  Anyone interested in donating soft knits for chemo-caps, bright woven fabrics for pillows, heavier fabrics for totes (denim, corduroy, and upholstery material), stuffing or sewing items may contact the Center at 972-495-6282.
