Utility Service for Residential Customers

The Utility Billing Department manages the city's billing, establishing new accounts and finalizing accounts for water, wastewater, recycling and trash service.  Responsibilities also include processing and mailing of bills, processing of payments, customer inquiries, and providing trash and recycling service information to new customers.

New Service:

As a new customer you are required to pay a $50 deposit for connection of services.  (If you are age 62+, you are exempt from the deposit.)  If you incur no late fees during the first year of service, the deposit is refunded to your account.  You may come to the office to complete the Utility Services Application or, to save time, you may download a copy and bring the completed application with you, along with your driver's license and the deposit.  Letters of credit or payment history may be faxed to 972-495-9356.  These are NOT accepted in lieu of a deposit.

Disconnects or Transfers:

If you are moving out of the City of Sachse, please use the Utility Change Form to tell us when you want to discontinue service at your address.  Please make sure you include a forwarding address.  Service can be disconnected Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  We do not disconnect or cancel service over the weekends.  Before deciding on a disconnect date, please be aware we will be out any time during the disconnect day to cut off the meter.  If you plan to do any cleaning you may want to schedule the termination of service for the next day.

Residents must have an active water account in good standing before we are able to transfer your service to another address within the city limits of Sachse.  Please complete the Utility Services Application and bring it to the Utility Billing Department or fax it to 972-495-9356.  Please inform us that you are transferring service to a new address and that you are a current resident.  There will be a $10.00 fee to transfer service from one home to another within the city limits.  You will still be responsible for your final billing at your previous address.

If service has been disconnected for non-payment of bill, there is a minimum reconnection fee of $25.00 for restoration of services.  Accounts reconnected after 4:00 pm on a weekday or during the weekend will be charged a $40.00 reconnection fee.

Water Leak Information

The City of Sachse allows customers to receive a leak adjustment in some instances.  All leaks area priority; however, leaks posing a potential threat to health and safety are handled as emergencies and receive priority response.  PLEASE CALL THE EMERGENCY NUMBER AT 972-495-2271 and speak to dispatch if you are experiencing a water leak after hours or on weekends.

If you request a leak credit, please provide a letter to the Utility Billing Department that includes the service address along with the approximate dates the leak occurred and the repair bill or receipt of parts purchased.  A leak credit will be applied only after a customer presents proof of a repair or the leak to the Utility Billing Department.

I have no water.  Whom should I contact?

The usual cause of not having water is non-payment of your utility bill.  Please contact Utility Billing at 972-495-1212, ext. 29 or 30 for payment and reconnection information.  If Utility Billing determines that service was not disconnected for non-payment or discontinued service, the office will dispatch a crew to determine the cause of the water delivery problem.

What should I do about a leak at the meter?

If a leak is on the city's side of a water connection, city crews will make repairs.  If the leak is determined to be on the customer's side of the connection, the customer is responsible for making repairs.  If a utility bill increases suddenly and for no apparent reason, it is usually due to a leak in one of the pipes at the customer's home.  Leaks in city-owned water pipes will not register on the customer's meters.

I have a leak inside my home.  Will the city repair it?

Please do not call us if you have a leak inside your home.  You may cut off the water supply to your home by the shut-off valve.  If there is no cut-off valve or if you need assistance in turning off the water supply to your house, please call Utility Billing at 972-495-1212, ext. 29 or 30.

Water is coming out of the ground.  What should I do?

Water coming out of the ground could be caused by a broken water line or ground water seepage.  Please contact Public Works, Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm at 972-495-7600 so that a crew may be sent to investigate the problem.

Where is my customer shut-off for the water to my house?

It is usually located near your house in the front flower beds.  You will need to call a professional plumber to determine the exact location of the shut-off valve; or, if your home is newly constructed, you may contact your builder to located the shut-off valve.

Who do I call if I am experiencing low or high pressure water issues?

Call the Water Department at 972-495-1212, ext. 29 or 30 during normal business hours, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  If it is after hours, please call the emergency number at 972-495-2271 and speak to dispatch.

What should I do if my sewer is backing up?

If it is during normal business hours (Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm) immediately contact Public Works at 972-495-7600.  If it is after normal business hours, please call the emergency number 972-495-2271 and speak to dispatch.  A sewer crew will be dispatched to your location.

Can sewer gas enter my home from the city's sewer lines?

Sewer gas can enter a building when the water located in a trap in the building evaporates.  All fixtures that are connected to the sewer system must have traps.  The water normally retained in the trap forms a barrier which keeps the gases from migrating from the sewer lines into the building.  If, however, you feel you detect sewer gas in your building, please call 972-495-7600.
