FINANCE DEPARTMENT EARNS 8th CONSECUTIVE CAFR AWARD

In January 2008, the Finance Department was awarded its 8th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) from the Government Finance Officers of the United States and Canada.  This award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Established in 1945, the award promotes and encourages all government units to prepare and publish an easily readable and understandable financial document that covers all funds and financial transactions during the fiscal year.  To participate, government units must complete an application and submit copies of the CAFR for review and consideration.

"This clearly shows the excellent financial position of the city due to the outstanding accounting procedures used," Mayor Mike Felix stated.  "The award directly reflects the city's money management."  Finance Director Alan Dickerson believes the award will have a positive impact on the city's bond rating as market analysts, investors and others look at the city's unit securities compared to alternative investment opportunities as reported in the CAFR.
