2007-2008 BUDGET INFORMATION AVAILABLE Sachse City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 07-08 budget and tax rate at the September 17, 2007 Council meeting. The approved ad valorem tax rate of $.5534 per $100 valuation is the same as last years. Although the tax rate is constant, increased home values will cause, on average, an increase of approximately $18 on residential tax bills. The $22,038,849 approved budget focuses on transportation, public safety and security, infrastructure and economic development and open government. The budget includes a contingency of $175,000 for wage and salary implementation which includes an amount for market and merit increases. An increase in legal professional costs from $55,000 to $95,000 was necessary for potential litigation with Kansas City Southern Railroad. The enhancements for public safety include three police officers, three firemen and the reclassification of lieutenants in the fire department. Additional requests include: Police - three vehicles to replace vehicles exceeding the mileage policy, upgrade of digital fingerprinting equipment and radio equipment, and a portable radar trailer to provide additional traffic control Fire - additional mobile data terminals to enhance portability and communication in the field and on scene Animal Control - part-time animal shelter attendant to provide operational assistance Library - two part-time library clerk positions converted to full-time positions Engineering - one CADD technician for engineering and mapping services Parks - one part-time recreation aide to assist with program activities IT - one IT technician to perform network support and administration Court - reclassification of Court Clerk to Municipal Court Administrator to provide supervision and be more in line with court-of-record duties and responsibilities Utility Billing - reclassification of Utility Billing Specialist to Utility Billing Supervisor to align with current duties and responsibilities The City will continue to maintain a reserve level that equates to more than 90 days in all operating funds.
