Library sets 40-day drive ahead of summer program
Food drive seeks to collect 5,000 food items for local pantry
(April 24, 2017) A 40-day food drive will kick off on May 1 and end on June 10,
the official start of the Sachse Library Summer Reading Club.
The food drive, titled “Build a
Better World” is to benefit the local food pantry, 5 Loaves. The drive’s title is also the theme for the
annual reading program, says Mignon Morse, Library Manager.
“The needs of the food pantry are
always top of mind for us,” she said.
“And, so we came up with this way to help restock the shelves at the
pantry, and at the same time, use it as a way to give our summer participants
an opportunity to have a positive impact on the community.”
The “Build a Better World” goal is
5,000 non-perishable items within those 40 days from May 1 to June 10. That’s an average of 125 items a day. To accommodate such an ambitious number,
packages of food items will be counted on a per item basis, meaning that a pack
of 10 items will count as 10, rather than one.

added Morse. “I think all we have to do
is get the word out, and I know people will respond.”
