[ARCHIVED] Spraying Mosquito in Zone One - Positive West Nile Virus Detected
We were notified by Dallas County that a mosquito carrying West Nile Virus was detected in Sachse. Dallas County handles the mosquito trapping and testing for all Sachse—including the Collin County portion of the city. Dallas County notified the City that the positive trap was collected from Zone One, which is located north of SH 78. Dallas County protocol requires that sprayings be conducted in the area surrounding the positive trap. Dallas County Health and Human Services has scheduled sprayings to occur in Zone One for two nights (Tuesday and Wednesday). The details of the spraying and a map of Zone One are listed below for reference. In addition, the County has an interactive map where residents can zoom in on specific locations to see if they will be in the spraying area.
The schedule for spraying is as follows:
Tuesday, August 24, 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Wednesday, August 25, 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m
The spray areas are posted by Dallas County:
Individuals are recommended to stay indoors while the treatment is being conducted in their area.
DCHHS continues to encourage residents to take the following precautions to reduce mosquito bites and mosquitoes:
- Wear long, loose-fitting, light clothing to avoid mosquito bites at DUSK and DAWN when mosquitoes are most active.
- Use EPA-approved insect repellants containing DEET
- Deep door and window screens in good condition and frames sealed tightly to prevent mosquitoes from entering the house.
- Dump, drain and reduce standing water and mosquito breeding sources outside your house.
